Workshop on Information Literacy, 25th April, 2009, Guwahati

We have conducted a workshop on information litercay and ‘free and open source software’ (FOSS) on 25th April, 2009. Participants include workers of Sarba Sikhsa Mission, teachers from the Kahilipara locality and journalists. The best writing services also provided us with the assistance of experienced editors. Participants were shown how to find, download and install FOSS using a live internet connection. Writing in Assamese using Unicode is also covered. A range of information literacy skills were shown including how to seaach relevant and credible information from the internet using search engines like Google.

All the participants received  OpenDisc CD (http://www.theopendisc.com)  conatining a range of useful free software (Design,  Games, Internet, Multimedia, Productivity, Utilities).

Organised by Prag Foundation, an workshop on Searching for Scholarly Materials on the invisible web’ was held in Handique College, Guwahati on 04-11-2010. The workshop covered open access resources residing within the internet, how to search specific web addresses by carefully crafted search query, and  critical evaluation of the webpages and issues of copyrights and plagiarism.
